| Arkansas Minimum Wage |
*I believe in Arkansas -- believe in taking what is right and what is best about our state and making it available to every Arkansan. For months, I have talked about my support for an increase in the minimum wage.
*At the current minimum wage, $5.15 an hour, assuming the typical 40-hour work week without a single vacation day or sick day for the entire year, a minimum-wage-earning Arkansan brings home $10,712 annually before taxes.
*Imagine trying to feed a family, pay rent, make a car-payment, get an education, pay for health care, buy groceries and save for retirement with an annual salary of $10,000. It just doesn't happen. Ends don't meet, and Arkansas families come up short.
*This is a reality I've lived. I was raised in Arkansas by my mother, and she worked for waitress's tips. She didn't even qualify for minimum wage. But she worked every day she could so I could have an education and an opportunity to better my life.
*For months, I supported an increase in the minimum wage. Since the ballot initiative cleared my office as attorney general, I have been an ardent and public supporter. Source: Candidate Website (10/07/2006) |
