Rep. McLean earned degrees from the University of the Ozarks and Arkansas State University. |
Beginning at Missouri Baptist College, Charlie served as president of the sophomore class and vice-president of the Student Service Club. He then transferred to the University of Missouri. He graduated from the School of Education with a degree in biology. At age 40 he went to law school at the University of Arkansas. |

He has worked as a landscape laborer, machine shop production worker, truck driver, and boiler tender. He taught biology, chemistry, and physics. A few years later he found himself employed as a Research Biologist for Monsanto Chemical Company. From research he moved into agricultural chemical sales and worked as a sales representative for 10 years. While attending law school he served as law clerk for Judge Thurston Thompson. Upon graduating, he received an award for making the most significant contribution in the field of health law, and was the first attorney in his graduating class to make partner in an established law firm. While practicing law, he also served as Adjunct Professor of Business Law at John Brown University. Before his recent retirement, Charlie continued his career with the State of Arkansas in the Office of Chief Counsel, handling child abuse and neglect cases. |

He has also been a qualified Gideon Church speaker, board member and legal counsel for the Crisis Pregnancy Center of Rogers, Arkansas, board member for the Richardson Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas, a mediation panelist for the Christian Justice Center of Northwest Arkansas, and coach of a youth roller hockey team. He has also served as a board member and president on the board of the Alpha Pregnancy Center in Batesville, Arkansas. |

During the 89th General Assembly, Rep. McLean serves as Chair for the Education Committee. He serves on the Joint Budget committee and also serves on the City, County and Local Affairs committee.
During the 88th General Assembly, Rep. McLean served on Arkansas Legislative Council, where he chaired the Peer Review Subcommittee. He also served as vice-chair of the Arkansas State Game and Fish Commission Legislative Oversight Committee. In addition, he served on the House Education Committee, where he is vice-chair of the Subcommittee for Early Education. Rep. McLean also served on the House Rules Committee, the Joint Budget Committee, and the House Committee on State Agencies and Governmental Affairs. |
